Beech (Tenn.) 28, Independence (Tenn.) 21: Senior running back Dorian Carter scored all four of Beech’s touchdowns on the ground with a brilliant 306-yard rushing performance on 54 carries. Independence quarterback Caleb Hollis completed 13 of 22 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the loss, but was intercepted four times.
IMG Academy (Fla.) 43, Cardinal Newman (Fla.) 24: Host IMG Academy trailed 24-20 after three quarters, but outscored Cardinal Newman 23-0 in the final quarter. Alabama-commit Bo Scarbrough rushed for four touchdowns in the game (21, 20, 19 and 73 yards). IMG Academy’s Jack Wegher scored the final touchdown to make it 43-24 on a 1-yard run, and quarterback Michael O’Connor tossed two touchdowns in the win.
Carrollton (Ga.) 42, Calhoun (Ga.) 7: The host Trojans rolled to a 28-0 halftime lead as Malik Sheppard returned an interception 37 yards for a score in the first quarter, then rushed for a 14-yard touchdown in the second. Carrollton racked up 211 total yards by intermission. The Trojans nabbed three interceptions and totaled 335 yards. Carrollton’s Trey Chivers rushed for 78 yards and two scores.
Northwestern (S.C.) 42, Byrnes 35 (S.C.) (OT): Quarterback Mason Rudolph and host Northwestern led 28-14 at halftime and outlasted Byrnes’ furious comeback attempt in an overtime classic. Rudolph threw five touchdown passes and rushed for a score, and the Oklahoma State-commit’s found Julian Shockley in overtime for the game-winning touchdown. Byrnes quarterback Shuler Bentley rushed for two touchdowns and tossed three more in the loss.
South Panola (Miss.) 24, North Little Rock (Ark.) 23: North Little Rock forced four South Panola turnovers and opened the scoring on a 56-yard interception return for a touchdown. The Tigers answered with a Darrell Henderson screen pass from Rip Kurk that the senior took 76 yards for the touchdown. The Charging Wildcats regained the lead, but Henderson broke his second big play of the night on an 80-yard touchdown run. In the fourth quarter, Juan Day’s 65-yard touchdown cut the South Panola lead to 24-23, but a late fake punt by the Tigers on fourth-and-8 allowed South Panola to run down the clock and hold off the Charging Wildcats.
