Red Door Tavern is Buckhead bar with sports twist

The Red Door Tavern has been going strong in Buckhead since 2003 and looks to keep doing so for many years to come.

The tavern serves a mixed clientele, from middle-aged business professionals at happy hour to the younger, late-night 20-something crowd. Patrons can enjoy sporting events on the establishment’s half-dozen televisions while being served complimentary popcorn along with their drink of choice.

Generally, Red Door entertains customers in one room, which features one of the longer bars in Atlanta, but can also open a back room when the larger weekend crowds come calling.

The tavern can be described as having a laid-back, casual atmosphere with a variety of decorations adorning the walls. Red Sox and UGA memorabilia seem to be the most prevalent, but the bar caters to fans of all teams. Although the bar is closed on Sunday, football fans can pack the place for college games on Saturday.

For fans of the bar, one can purchase a navy blue Red Door Tavern t-shirt with the bar’s name written in Red Sox script on the front. Bar manager Steve Shamatta, a Boston native, may be the reason for the Red Sox and Patriots Sports Illustrated covers framed on the wall as well as the Red Sox flavor on the t-shirts.

“Chicken,” one of the tavern’s bartenders, believes that despite the lack of a food menu, Red Door still caters to any and all sports fans.

“The televisions are always showing sports,” said the perky pourer. “Tons of people come here to watch UGA or other college games on Saturday.”

If you’re in the Buckhead neighborhood near the intersection of Roswell and Peachtree, the Red Door is a great option for any thirsty sports enthusiast. The comfortable, quirky atmosphere will have any patron feeling at home almost instantly.
