Georgia men’s tennis has been nothing short of a premier program for the last 50 years, and 2013 has not shown any signs of regression. This past Saturday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss., the second-ranked and No. 1-seeded Georgia Bulldogs went on to blank the No. 2 seeded Tennessee Volunteers 4-0, claiming the program’s 23rd SEC championship in the last 25 years.
This year was the first time since 2007 that the Bulldogs completed the sweep in terms of winning the outright regular season title as well as tournament champions.
However, Georgia still has unfinished business and it is evident that the team is still hungry and yearning to win it all.
When asked how it felt to go out on top as a senior after winning the SEC championship, KU Singh, the No. 6 player in the country, quickly replied.
“Well you know the season’s not over yet, we still have NCAA’s, but you know the team is really happy right now, we have worked hard all year,” said Singh. “All we can do now is continue to work hard and prepare for a tough week at NCAA’s; we are definitely capable of winning the whole thing.”
Georgia’s next stop will be the NCAA Championships. The first and second round will take place from May 10-12 at a venue soon to be announced. The program has not won a national title since 2008.
