The Redan girls track and field team captured the Region 6-AAAA title, the first step in the Raiders’ state title defense. Crystal Gray won the 200- and 400-meter dashes while Shequilla McClain won the 300-meter hurdles. Redan also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Marist was second, with Grady, Columbia and Chamblee rounding out the top five for the girls Region 6-AAAA championships at Lakewood Stadium. Alexandria Andrews of Columbia won the 100-meter dash. The Marist boys edged past Redan in the boys Region 6-AAAA championships. Redan was sparked by Ian Grandison’s win in the 300-meter hurdles and Chris McBridge’s victory in the triple jump. Lithonia won the 4×100 relay, but finished sixth in the final standings. Banneker was third with Carver-Atlanta and Grady rounding out the top five. … The Brookwood Broncos swept the Region 8-AAAAAA track and field championships. The Brookwood girls pulled away from Parkview for the win as QuanDra Shanks won the 800-meter run and Payton Wilson took a victory in the 3200-meter run. Simone Glenn added a victory in the 200-meter dash. Archer finished third with Berkmar and Central Gwinnett rounding out the top five. Berkmar’s Elexis Guster won the 100-meter dash. The Brookwood boys placed fourth in the 4×400 relay, the final event of the meet to help the Broncos beat Shiloh by a single point. Tommy Templeman (3200-meter run), Josh Ingalls (800-meter run) and Jay Lawson (110-meter hurdles) gave Brookwood individual wins while Shiloh received victories from Jeremy McDuffie (300-meter hurdles), Nicholas Bradley (100-meter dash) and Grant Swinton (200- and 400-meter dashes) before winning the 4×400 relay. … The Mill Creek girls were helped by Malayshia George’s victories in the 200- and 400-meter dashes and Lauren Hovis’ win in the 3200-meter run to beat out Norcross for the Region 7-AAAAAA title. The Mill Creek boys beat out Peachtree Ridge and Norcross to pull off the sweep. Michael Cheeks won the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Devozea Gaines of Mill Creek took home honors in the 100-meter dash. The Hawks would also win both relays. Peachtree Ridge’s Josh Brickell won the 3200-meter run. … Marietta swept the boys and girls Region 4-AAAAAA titles as Mary Jeanne Assinzo gave the Blue Devils a win in the 800-meter run while Elizabeth Hartley and Tatiyana Radford each won a pair of individual titles. The boys were paced by Ben Pleak’s win in the 3200-meter run. … Pope claimed the boys Region 7-AAAAA title and shared the girls title with Kell. Kell and Pope each notched 117.5 points to easily beat out Creekview. The Pope boys finished with 142 points to win the program’s third straight region title. Sprayberry finished second with 118 points.
