As teams aim to finish the season strong, late season pushes were on full display in lacrosse this weekend. From the boys, North Gwinnett blew past Norcross in a 13-5 victory, and a struggling Cherokee squad rebounded with a forceful 20-10 victory over South Forsyth. Walton garnered momentum that could carry into the postseason with a 14-3 statement win over a top-tier Roswell squad.
In girls lacrosse, Lassiter demonstrated its supremacy with a lopsided 19-6 win over Alpharetta. Cherokee also recorded a 19-6 victory in an away match with Forsyth Central. Kennesaw Mountain continues to appear dangerous as the season closes, and delivered an 18-6 rout of Hillgrove.
On the diamond, Milton blanked Walton 8-0, as junior Dylan Cease recorded his fifth win of the season for the streaking Eagles. Junior teammate and catcher Alec Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and turned the key double play that cemented the shutout. Region 7-AAAAA front-runner Pope fell on the road to Sprayberry 5-2. Dunwoody pitcher Logan Elliot proved dominant in the Wildcats’ 10-0, 6-inning victory over M.L. King moving them to 19-3 on the season. East Paulding moved to 16-1 in region play and extended its winning streak to seven games after a 14-3 win over Lithia Springs. Class AAA Woodward Academy beat Class A-Private Eagle’s Landing Christian 14-4 and handed the Chargers their first loss of the season.
In soccer, Paideia boys scored a 9-0 win over Pace Academy moving to 16-1 on the year. Pope journeyed to Coffee County to earned its 4-1 road win. In girls soccer, Lakeside-DeKalb continues to pace Class AAAAA competition and topped Tucker 9-0 to move to 16-0-1 on the season. The Vikings can wrap up an undefeated season with a win over Arabia Mountain Monday night in the final game of the season.
