Hornets miss football playoffs for first time since 2002

The Hornets lost two straight football games to Walton and Lassiter to end their five-year postseason streak. Turnovers did in Roswell on Friday in a 21-7 loss to Lassiter. Twice the Hornets fumbled to set up two Lassiter touchdowns, putting Roswell in a 14-0 hole before halftime. Roswell was able to cut the lead in half early in the fourth quarter, scoring on a 5-yard pass from Brian Hickman to Donovan Bennett. Friday’s loss was preceded by a 28-21 defeat at the hands of the Walton Raiders on Oct. 31. Duvall Smith scored an 80-yard touchdown on the first play of the game to put Roswell up 7-0. Walton scored the next 21 points to put the game away, however, and extend Roswell’s losing streak to two. … The cross country squads competed at the Region 6-AAAAA Championship meet on Oct. 30 in Acworth. The boys were led by Andrew Lagasse, who took third place individually. The boys team finished in seventh place overall. The girls team took third overall and was paced by Jessica Muse, who came in eighth place individually.
