In one of the biggest moves of the weekend, Aquinas tailback Brendan Douglas flipped his commitment from Georgia Tech to Georgia in a move that raised a lot of eyebrows across the state. The Athens Banner-Herald noted that Douglas rushed for 1,424 yards during his senior season while helping Aquinas to an 8-3 record (17-7 over the past two seasons) and a berth in the Class A playoffs. Douglas made the Score 44 earlier this season after rushing for 1,569 yards as a junior. … UGA also tried to get in on the George Adeosun sweepstakes over the weekend. After Laremy Tunsil’s visit with Ole Miss, Georgia quickly offered the 6-foot-6 Alpharetta tackle who recently de-committed from William & Mary. Adeosun has been busy of late, collecting offers from Purdue, Kentucky, Missouri, Virginia, Georgia Tech and Georgia while visiting Oklahoma and Arizona State, where he was this past weekend per 247sports.com. Some outlets have reported him as an Arizona State pledge, but ESPN.com this morning had him as still undeclared. …Douglas wasn’t the only recruit to flip on Georgia Tech as Lovejoy’s JuMichael Ramos visited N.C. State over the weekend and committed to the Wolfpack during the trip. Scout.com, who first reported the flip, has Ramos listed as a three-star prospect. … The recent good news for Ole Miss took a bit of a hit when Milton running back Peyton Barber dropped his commitment to the Rebels in favor of Auburn. Scout.com reported that Barber, who took a visit to the Plains over the weekend, committed Sunday night after returning home from the trip. He visited Ole Miss last weekend. … Two interesting pieces of recruiting news came out of Hillgrove over the past few days as first CB Tolando Cleveland flipped his commitment from Georgia Tech to Mississippi State. Then quarterback Troy Thompson announced he would be headed to the Naval Academy. Thompson measures in at 6-foot, 190 pounds, and last year Thompson managed to throw for 1,864 yards with 16 touchdowns as well as 415 rushing yards with five additional scores. Meanwhile Cleveland, who Hillgrove coach Phil Ironside told Score had been a starter since his sophomore season, will head to Mississippi State. The SEC West Bulldogs had offered Cleveland back in June at the program’s football camp, but Cleveland instead opted to go with Georgia Tech in July. He was reportedly in Starkville over the weekend on an official visit. … Archer is sending yet another player to a service academy, as running back and standout wrestler Ernest Alexander has committed to the Naval Academy. Alexander missed some time on the gridiron this season with various injuries, but he has been a force on the wrestling mats. This weekend, Alexander (195 pounds) was one of 12 Archer wrestlers to win an area championship and he is undefeated this season. … Steven Camara, a defensive end prospect from Dunwoody, committed to Centre College over the weekend. This is especially big news since Camara survived a bout with cancer in 2011. Camara had been diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma, made it through several rounds of chemotherapy and has been cancer-free since September of 2011.
