The Class A Public Power Rankings have shifted a touch with Mitchell County jumping over Wilcox County and Seminole County moving ahead of Wilkinson County in the latest poll. Mitchell County has a 10.12 ranking, easily bettering Wilcox County’s 9.38. Seminole County sits right behind Wilcox at 9.33. Treutlen rounds out the top five. Hancock Central, Turner County, Portal, Lanier County and Dooly County are sitting 6-10.
The Class A Private boys poll has not changed that much from last week with North Cobb Christian, Greenforest Christan and Holy Innocents’ still comprising the top three. Excel Christian moves up to No. 4 with Mount Paran and Landmark Christian tied for the No. 5 spot. Athens Christian, No. 5 last week, checks in at No. 7 with Calvary Day, W.D. Mohammed and St. Francis rounding out the top ten.
As for the girls, Southwest Atlanta Christian remains No. 1 with Holy Innocents’ moving up to No. 2. Darling, Calvary Day and St. Francis occupy spots 3-5. Atlanta International fell from No. 3 to No. 6, followed by Paideia, Strong Rock Christian, George Walton and Mount Paran.
In the girls public poll, Randolph-Clay is followed by Turner County, Gordon Lee, Treutlen and Wilkinson County. Irwin County sits just outside the top five.
According to the GHSA, only the teams “certified as first-place region representatives shall automatically qualify for the state playoffs.” The brackets will be filled out and seeded 1-16 according to their power ranking after the region champions have been placed in their appropriate seeds, with the region champions seeded at the top of the bracket ranked in order by their power rankings.
