Spartans nip winless Wildcats, 7-6

The football team defeated the Wheeler Wildcats 7-6 last Friday and lost to the Centennial Knights (2-7) 24-20 the previous week. With the win over Wheeler (0-9), Campbell broke a six-game losing streak and improved its record to 2-7. The Spartans fell behind 6-0 in the second quarter after a Wheeler touchdown. Campbell scored the winning touchdown on its first possession of the second half, as Coleman Joiner completed a 42-yard touchdown pass to Javian Smith. Joiner threw for 142 yards in the game on 9-of-18 passing. The team will host Alpharetta this Friday. … The volleyball squad ended the season with a 17-22 record, 8-10 in Area 1-AAAAA play. The Lady Spartans defeated Wheeler on Oct. 16 but lost to Kell on Oct. 18 to end the season. … The Spartan cross country squads ran at the Region 6-AAAAA meet  last Thursday. The boys finished 10th and were led by John White, who came in 61st place. The girls team came in 10th as well. Sarah Prey paced the team, finishing 13th overall. The Spartan boys finished 26th at the Reebok Coach Wood Invitational on Oct. 18.
