CLASS 5A (by Brian Jones)
The biggest game in Class 5A was in Gwinnett County, where No. 8 Peachtree Ridge took on Norcross to determine the No. 2 seed in Region 7. With a strong running game led by Brandon Stanley, who tallied 107 yards, the Lions defeated the Blue Devils 20-7 to improve to 7-0 in the region. … Over in Fulton County, Walton was able to squeak past Roswell 28-21 and maintain the No. 1 spot in Region 6 while the loss put the Hornets outside looking in as they stand at No. 5 in the league. … The Lions of M.L. King were able to get a crucial win over Redan 42-7 to maintain a three-way tie for the Region 2 lead. Mack Brown went crazy as he ran for 302 yards and three touchdowns in the win. … Down in South Georgia, No. 1 Lowndes shut out Coffee 21-0 and locked up a Region 1 title, and No. 3 Northside-Warner Robins blanked Warner Robins 14-0 to secure a playoff spot as well. … Camden County had an off week as the Wildcats only scored 68 points in the win over Savannah. They scored over 70 points in their two games prior to their battle against the Blue Jackets.

It was supposed to be a tense Halloween night at Westside-Macon when the top-ranked Seminoles put their undefeated record on the line against fellow top-10 team and Region 1 rival Thomas County Central (7-2, 6-1). Instead it turned into a rout. Westside-Macon (9-0, 7-0) destroyed the Yellow Jackets 51-0. … Region 5A also saw its top team make an emphatic statement on Friday. Sandy Creek (9-0, 5-0) blanked visiting Northgate (5-4, 3-2) 7-0. … Sandy Creek will play Villa Rica (8-1, 6-0), which remained undefeated in 5B play with a 21-0 win over Tri-Cities, next Friday for the region title. … Torey Bowens, a freshman, rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns to lead Mays (7-2, 4-2) over Lithia Springs 21-13 in Region 5B. … A jam-packed Region 8 remained tied at the top as Clarke Central (8-1) crushed Winder-Barrow 52-13 and Loganville (8-1) escaped Rockdale County 7-6. Behind the two leaders is a crowded playoff picture that includes Habersham Central and Salem. Habersham Central (6-4) scored a crucial 24-10 victory over Salem (5-4) to swap positions in the standings. … An impenetrable defense ensured the Region 4 title for North Clayton on Thursday night. The Eagles (8-1, 7-0) locked up the No. 1 seed with a 14-0 win over Jonesboro (5-4, 4-3).

Usually Friday night offers the best high school football the state of Georgia has to offer, but this year fans got a treat just one day before Halloween. LaGrange and Carver-Columbus got it on last Thursday and the No. 2 Grangers lost the Region 2-AAA crown with less than 100 yards of total offense in a 24-0 loss. The defending state champion Carver-Columbus squad rushed for 271 yards en route to a big win. Jarkius Morgan posted one score while Isiah Crowell’s 99 yards and touchdown sparked the win. … Cairo meanwhile hosted Crisp County and the Syrupmakers featured the one-two punch of quarterback Angelo Pease and running back Reggie Bryant to the tune of a 38-6 victory. Brant’s 142 rushing yarda and three scores got Cairo cooking early. … Even though Washington County was coming into its contest with Baldwin off of a loss, the hitting was hard and the Baldwin Braves needed a Roshaun Miline-to-Josh Finney 31-yard TD connection to escape with a 14-12 win. … Elsewhere, Blake Sims accounted for three TDs in Gainesville’s 68-28 win over Johnson-Savannah. … St. Pius X used 504 yards of total offense, including 391 on the ground, to blast Riverwood 66-7. Trey White had 94 yards and a score in the win.
CLASS 2A (by Corey Mitchell)
Things went according to plan for Buford this week in their 29-7 region-clinching victory over Westminster on Halloween night. The Wolves relied on the two-pronged rushing attack of Cody Getz (16 carries, 73 yards) and Storm Johnson (17 carries, 84 yards) in the win. The result creates a four-way tie for second place in the region. The remaining playoff spots will be decided next week when Westminster faces Blessed Trinity and Lovett hosts Decatur. … Pepperell finished a perfect regular season with a 47-0 ousting of Model on Friday. The second-ranked Dragons will host a first-round playoff game. … Another bunch of Dragons stayed perfect on Friday as Jefferson beat North Oconee 17-16 in a nail-biter to win the Region 8 championship outright. Jefferson dodged a bullet as North Oconee kicker James Pinkerton shanked the tying PAT to keep the Dragons unscathed. The title marked the school’s first region crown in 31 years. … In Region 2, McIntosh County Academy took care of Pierce County 21-7, setting up a showdown with 8-1 Charlton County next Friday to decide the region’s champion. … Brooks County took care of business against Cook, beating the Hornets 34-20. The win clinched the Region 1 title for the Trojans as they travel to Albany next week.
CLASS A (by Derek Wiley)
Two region titles were decided on Halloween night in Class A. Second-ranked Wilcox County defeated eighth-ranked Turner County 21-20 at home to win Region 2. … Lincoln County senior running back Jafabian Green led the offense with a 61-yard touchdown run, but the Red Devils defense was frightening, shutting out Wilkinson County 20-0 to win Region 7. Lincoln County’s defense held a Wilkinson County offense that had averaged over 46 points in its previous three region games to only 15 total yards. The Warriors have not beaten Lincoln County in five tries. … No. 1-ranked Emanuel County Institute blew out Montgomery County 39-7 to move to 9-0. State touchdown career record holder and University of Georgia-bound running back Washaun Ealey scored five more touchdowns, three rushing and two receiving. …Third-ranked Clinch County shut out Pelham 60-0 to improve its record to 8-1 and 4-0 in Region 1. … And Brookstone defeated Central-Talbotton 55-6 to round out the top five.
