Local running backs on the move

Missouri has already reaped the benefits of joining the SEC as the Tigers recently picked up the pledge of Dutchtown athlete Donovahn Jones. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound three-star prospect rushed for 81 yards to help Dutchtown knock off Riverdale last week, but Jones’ skills were on display on a 55-yard touchdown run on a fake punt attempt. Jones picked Missouri over offers from Arkansas, Colorado State, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Marshall, Wake Forest and South Florida. Despite his commitment to Missouri, Jones will still visit Minnesota on Oct. 26 according to Rivals.com.

Parkview’s Chris Carson scored two important touchdowns in the Panthers’ win over Grayson and major schools are starting to notice. Carson holds offers from Indiana, Miami, Troy and Akron, but Auburn has reportedly started to show interest. Rumors circulated recently that Carson had committed to South Florida, but Parkview’s Cecil Flowe denied those reports to the AJC.

Plenty of local eyes were on Derrick Henry this afternoon as the Yulee (Fla.) running back/athlete pick announced his college decision: Alabama. Henry originally committed to Georgia, but he later backed out of that pledge. He chose Alabama over Tennessee. Norcross’ Alvin Kamara and Walton’s Tyren Jones are considered dominoes that could fall now that Henry has made his decision. Jones is also committed to Alabama, but he has stated that he will take an official visit to Georgia. The Walton running back recently suffered a wrist injury but will attempt to play without it Friday when the Raiders face Cherokee. Kamara also had to leave a game earlier this year with concerns over an injury. The Blue Devils speedster has Georgia and Alabama as his finalists.
