Football team squeaks by GAC, softball bows out in state playoffs and volleyball makes Final Four

Following a week off, the football team won a 19-18 nailbiter against Greater Atlanta Christian last Friday night. With GAC leading 18-13 late in the fourth quarter, Lovett responded with a game-winning touchdown drive. Quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff scored on a touchdown run with less than two minutes remaining for the winning points. The team travels to Avondale on Friday. … The No. 3-ranked volleyball squad has advanced to the Class AA/A Final Four, which will be held on Thursday. Lovett (32-10) defeated Temple, Athens Academy and Landmark Christian in the sectionals to advance to the Final Four. Prior to the sectionals, the Lions finished second in the Area 6-AA Tournament by defeating Walker. No. 1 Westminster won the area title by beating Lovett in the finals. The final four starts Thursday at Kell. … Kendrick Goodman hit a three-run home run to lead the softball team to a 5-4 first-round win over Appling County in the state playoffs. The team then lost its next two games to Buford and Southeast Bulloch. “This year has been amazing,” explained proud head coach Mark Bagwell. “We had a good mix of kids that loved being around each other.”
