Raiders drop second in a row, fall to 6-2

After six games, the football team looked as if it would enter the state playoffs with an unblemished record. Then the Raiders lost the juice the team was running with early. The losing streak started with a loss to Banneker at home on Oct. 18, 18-14. The loss dropped Mays from No. 2 in the GPB/Score Atlanta Top 10 for Class 4A. It was the first loss all year, and showed the weaknesses in the Mays’ armor that the team had overcome over the first half of the year. The team had a chance to rebound this Friday as Mays traveled to Villa Rica, another talented team from Region 5. The Raiders held Villa Rica to 13 points, but were only able to muster 10 in the 13-10 loss. Bobby Anthony scored the lone touchdown for Mays on a 1-yard run. The game-changing moment came when Mays fumbled the ball, allowing the Wildcats to return it 40 yards for a score. This Friday, Mays travels to Lithia Springs in hopes of ending the now two-game losing streak.
