Knights continue busy summer

New Centennial football coach Jeffrey Carlberg is quickly putting his fingerprints all over the Knights program, and he has invited Score along for the ride during his first year at the helm. Here are highlights from a busy summer.

The Knights have had an outstanding summer thus far that was capped off by our participation in the Georgia Invitational 7-on-7 Tournament at Lassiter this past weekend. We have competed in four 7-on-7 tournaments this summer and have continually gotten better in each event. The skill positions have had a great chance to get the needed work/reps that are necessary for them to learn their positions.

The strength and conditioning program has also been a success this summer. Coaches Reggie Nixon and Ryan Douglas have done an outstanding job of coordinating our summer work to get the players faster and stronger. As a team, we have gotten much stronger in raw strength and in our work ethic. We still have some improvement to be made in both areas, but our players are doing things the right way and making improvements in all areas.

We recently camped in Hayden, Ala., with Perry Swindall. It was a great experience for our team in both physical development and team bonding. In all of my years in coaching, I can honestly say that time spent together in a team setting like that is a priceless commodity.

Finally, I am pleased to announce that we have solidified our coaching staff for the 2012 season with the hiring of our defensive coordinator Billy Kirk. He will also coach linebackers for Centennial this season. He will join what I believe is a strong staff. The staff breaks down as follows: Carl Cole, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks; Sahl Shaheed, defensive line and special teams coordinator; Ryan Douglas, defensive backs; Jonathon Story, defensive line; Preston Pridgen, offensive line; Reggie Nixon, inside receivers; Montez Bridgefourth, outside receivers; Christian Atkinson, running backs. Jeff Burch will coach our freshman team with Phil Thomas, Bryan Wallace and Willie Ferrell.
