Football loses to Southwest DeKalb; Coble top performer again for XC

The football team (4-2, 3-2) dropped a Region 6-AAAA contest to Southwest DeKalb last Friday night, 17-10. Chamblee kept it close with a 42-yard field goal from Jared Clark and a 9-yard scoring run by Frank Epps. ”Football is a game of inches, and we were a few inches away in this game,” said head coach Mike Collins. The Bulldogs meet Tucker (5-1, 4-1) on Friday. … The volleyball team geared up for postseason play with wins over two Class 5A schools, North Gwinnett on Oct. 2 and Central Gwinnett on Oct. 9. Tucker won twice at the Area 6-AAAA Tournament on Saturday in two straight games over both Southwest DeKalb and North Springs. … The softball team notched 9-4 and 2-1 victories over Riverwood and Dunwoody, respectively, but could not carry the momentum into the Region 6-AAAA Tournament. The Bulldogs fell to North Springs 7-3 on Oct. 6. … The boys cross country team placed 10th out of 25 teams at the Alexander/Asics Invitational on Oct. 4. Junior Alex Coble led the way with a time of 17:01. The girls were paced by sophomore Laura Hoefer (22:39). The teams compete in the DeKalb County Championships on Wednesday.
