Score Atlanta/GPB Game of the Week

Friday night’s game between the Chamblee Bulldogs and Southwest DeKalb Panthers at North DeKalb Stadium will go a long way in determining who will make the playoffs out of Region 6-AAAA. The Bulldogs (4-1, 3-1) come into the game having dropped only one region contest this year, while the Panthers (4-1, 4-0), along with Marist, sit atop Region 6-AAAA. Marist beat Chamblee 14-13 and, at the time, it was viewed as a setback for the Bulldogs. But after Marist later defeated region favorite Tucker 38-0, Chamblee’s loss doesn’t seem quite as bad.

Chamblee will look to further solidify its playoff position with a win over Southwest DeKalb. To do that, they will depend on the running of Warren Norman and the versatility of receiver Darius Jones. Additionally, Garrett Williams is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in DeKalb County. Chamblee’s defense has only allowed an average of 5.6 points per game and defensive end Artemus Norman is a terror.

Southwest DeKalb will counter with a stifling defense of its own that has shut out its last three opponents. Allen Stripling is a player to watch for the Panthers. On offense, head coach Buck Godfrey’s team features a bruising running game led by Michael Johnson and Kendrun Malcome. The Panthers can also pass the ball, as quarterback Daniel Litt and receiver Jacoby Mitchell form a nice tandem. In two of their final three regular-season games, the Panthers play Marist and Tucker, while Chamblee has Tucker and Miller Grove left, so a win is important for both teams.
