Mustangs struggle without starting QB, out with ankle injury

After a 44-14 loss to Shiloh on Sept. 26, the football team (1-5) continued its slide falling last Friday to the Brookwood Broncos 48-7. The Mustangs struggled to score without senior quarterback Sean Frezell, who was held out of the game because of an injured ankle he suffered in the fourth quarter of a 44-14 loss to the Shiloh Generals the week before. Since the Mustangs defeated the Duluth Wildcats 24-14 on Sept. 5, Meadowcreek’s defense has struggled to slow down opponents, allowing an average of 52 points in the last four games. Containing the Berkmar Patriots, who are scoring just 14.2 points per game, will be key for Meadowcreek in Friday’s 7:30 p.m. homecoming game. … The softball team wrapped up the 2008 season with a tough 22-20 loss to Columbia, bringing the girls’ season record to 2-7-1. The team graduates just four seniors and head coach Jason Novak is looking forward to next year saying, "We built a lot." … The volleyball team closes its year at home Thursday against Mill Creek and Lakeside-DeKalb at 4:45 p.m.
