HOOPS REVIEW: Powder Springs powers to meet in finals

The No. 3 team in the nation according to USA Today is one win away from claiming the girls Class AAAAA crown that eluded them one year ago. The McEachern Indians edged the two-time defending champion Norcross Blue Devils 64-61 behind Dominique Wilson’s 21 points. Te-A Cooper had 18 for the victors while Pachis Roberts chipped in 11. Superstar junior Diamond DeShields was bottled up to just nine points, while Shayla Cooper led Norcross with 18. Tori Carter added 14. McEachern, which lost to Norcross in last year’s title game, improved to 32-0 and will face Hillgrove for the title.

The Hawks rallied from a halftime deficit by way of a 28-13 second half run to clip the North Gwinnett Bulldogs 56-51. Celina Rodrigo had 15 second-half points as the Hawks overcame 25 from Lexie Brown and a double-double from Peyton Whitted.

The Buford Wolves will have a chance to win a fourth straight Class AA state championship after blowing out Brooks County 70-37. Kristina Nelson and Kallie Case each scored 12 points to pace Gene Durden’s club. Mackenzie Darrah added 11 while Kaela Davis scored 10 points in the victory. Buford scored the game’s first 10 points at the Macon Coliseum.

Finally, Tatianna Jackson scored 28 points while grabbing 10 rebounds to help Lovett sneak by Laney 56-41. Taylor Brown added 10 for the Lions.
