RECRUITING BUZZ: Buford’s Davis looking around

With the Buford Wolves seeking yet another girls Class AA title, junior standout Kaela Davis has reopened her recruiting. Davis, who committed to Tennessee in 2010, has decided to look around though Tennessee may still end up as her destination. In a piece on ESPN’s HoopGurlz site, Davis’ mother cited Tennessee head coach Pat Summitt’s health as a reason for the de-commitment. Fellow Buford guard Andraya Carter signed with Tennessee in November and will still head to Knoxville next season.

Brannen Greene’s junior season ended as Mary Persons fell to Veterans Wednesday night, but don’t blame the future Kansas Jayhawk. Greene poured in a game-high 31 points in the loss. The 6-foot-6 guard has been committed to Kansas since late December and is a candidate for the 24 2Look4 in 2013.

Package deals are being more and more common in basketball recruiting, and South Florida can brag about its state of Georgia pairing of guard Drew Davis and center John Egbunu. The latter is the No. 21 center in the Class of 2013 according to ESPN Rise. The pair pledged on the same day to South Florida back in December. The two attend Eagles Landing High School, but do not suit up for the 24-2 Class AAA No. 3 team. They instead play for Georgia Elite Christian, which plays a prep school schedule.

Charles “Chuck” Mitchell is perhaps the top player in the state not named Tony Parker who has yet to commit next season. Mitchell has been a force for Wheeler this year, using his 6-foot-8 frame to rack up double-doubles all season long for the Wildcats. According to Scout.com, Mitchell holds offers from Clemson, Georgia, Memphis and Western Kentucky. He is listed as the No. 27 center in America for the Class of 2012.
