METRO RECAP: Grayson earns a trip to the Dome

Grayson’s Nick Schuessler is sometimes a forgotten man, but the Rams’ quarterback passed for 190 yards and two scores, including the game-winner with under one minute to play as Grayson advanced to the AAAAA finals. The Rams tripped up the Colquitt County Packers 35-31 when Schuessler found Marcus Lindquist from six yards out with 28 seconds to play. Schuessler had previously connected with Austin Meadows for a touchdown. Robert Nkemdiche, Devin Gillespie and Jordan Germany also scored for the Rams. … The Walton Raiders will have a chance to break the Cobb County curse next week after defeating Lassiter 30-24, though it wasn’t easy. Walton jumped out to a 21-3 lead only to see Lassiter have a shot to tie or take the lead in the game’s final minute.  Eddie Printz of Lassiter passed for 395 yards and a pair of scores, but it was his final pass on fourth-and-goal from the nine that will haunt him. Printz had previously found Charlie Hegedus and Juwan Dickey for scores during the comeback. Walton’s Tyren Jones rushed for 187 yards on 23 carries and scored twice against his former team. This season Jones has rushed for nearly 2300 yards and 38 scores. Parker McLeod passed for a score and ran for another, and Zack Blaylock recorded yet another interception before leaving with an injury. … Tucker needed some late magic, and the Tigers found it in the form of a 100-yard fumble return for a score by Justin Rivers to defeat Northside-Warner Robins on the road 17-16. Tucker forced four fumbles on the night. Jordan Landry had a 31-yard score for Tucker. … The drive for five is still alive as Buford rallied to beat Carver-Columbus 28-13. The Tigers led at halftime, but Buford stopped turning the ball over in the second half after three first half fumbles. Nathan Staub scored from five yards out, and then Sam Clay gave the Wolves some breathing room with a 26-yard score. Rick LeGrant would put the game on ice late in the fourth. Andre Johnson rushed for 127 yards in the win. … Lovejoy’s Alejandro Benefield hooked up with A.J. Jackson for a pair of scores and Travis Custis rushed for 131 yards and a score in the Wildcats’ 21-6 win over Warner Robins.
