Red Devils crushed by McNair, host Clarkston for homecoming

A 2-1 start had fans buzzing about the possibility of the school’s first winning season since 1993. But the Red Devils were unable to score the upset against a very strong McNair team, losing 50-22 to their Region 5-AAA opponents. Quarterback Jay Cromwell and wide receiver Byron Dickerson led the way in another successful week for the Devils’ spread offense, but defense was a problem as McNair’s Arnold Walker rushed for an unbelievable 250 yards and five touchdowns on 30 carries. Next up for Kip Hall’s team is an improved Clarkston squad on Friday for homecoming. If the Red Devils can get their third win of the year, they may be well on their way to reaching their goal of a .500 season. … The softball team enjoyed a relatively easy victory over Towers, winning 14-3 before the game was called after just two innings. Hannah Coleman went 2-for-2, scoring two runs and notching one RBI. … The volleyball team beat Forsyth Central (25-16, 25-11) on Thursday, but suffered a heartbreaking region loss to Dunwoody afterwards (20-25, 26-24, 10-15). The team hosts Towers and Cedar Grove on Thursday.
