Eagles enjoy bye week before facing Towers

The Eagles head into their bye week with a respectable 2-2 record, but sit at 0-1 on the A side of Region 5-AAA after a 55-6 loss at the hands of Cedar Grove last Friday. Columbia will look to improve in the week off and be ready for its next game, which is Oct. 3 at Hallford Stadium against Towers. … The softball team beat Towers 15-6 last week, taking advantage of numerous Towers walks. Miah Glover walked four times and scored four runs while Laura Burrell had two hits. The Eagles had two region games left to play heading into this week and entered the week tied with Clarkston for the final tournament spot from Region 5A-AAA. Two wins will put them in the tournament, but a split, depending on how Clarkston fares, may force a playoff game between the two teams. … Omar King led the boys cross country team with a 14th-place finish in his DeKalb County Week 3 race. King completed the Shamrock course in a time of 20:33.12. Jordan Iam finished 29th with a time of 22:24.35.
