Greyhounds pick up first victory of season over Centennial

Football head coach Matt Kemper got his first win at Pope on Friday night. The Greyhounds defeated the Centennial Knights 28-7. The team rushed for 189 yards, as Steve Wilkerson led the team with 69 while Parker Frost added 39 yards and a touchdown. Wilkerson was efficient throwing the ball, going 9-for-12 and 108 yards. The defense was just as sharp, forcing the Knights to throw three interceptions. The 1-3 Greyhounds will host 3-1 Kell on Friday in a region game. … The volleyball team defeated Milton and Kennesaw Mountain last Thursday. Mary Hoey led the Lady Greyhounds with 26 kills, nine digs and three service aces. Pope has won 11 of 12 matches dating back to Sept. 4. The team will take part in the Cobb County Tournament at Kell on Thursday. … The softball team lost its fourth game in a row, in a shutout to Lassiter last week. With the loss the Lady Greyhounds fall to 5-9 for the year with a 2-4 record in the region which puts them in third place. The team will host Wheeler on Thursday.
