Raiders win first region game, travel to Douglas County

The Raiders improved to 4-0 on the season with a 12-7 victory over Alexander on Friday night. The game was the team’s first region matchup of the year, leaving Mays sitting atop the standings for Region 5B-AAAA, tied with Villa Rica and Banneker. The 12 points scored by the Raiders were the fewest points a Mays team has scored in a victory since the team’s 7-0 victory over Cedar Grove last season. This week, Mays travels to Douglas County for both teams’ second region match of the season. … After a big 20-2 victory over Douglass on Wednesday, the softball team struggled both in and out of the region. On Thursday, the Lady Raiders lost to Sandy Creek 9-1 for the team’s seventh-consecutive region loss. The following night, the team had two tough losses to Hiram and Chapel Hill. Friday night’s games were the team’s final non-region games of the season. This week, the team hosts Villa Rica on Thursday followed by a trip to Northgate on Tuesday. … The volleyball team hosts Tri-Cities on Tuesday.
