North Cobb hands Mustangs first loss of ’08

The football team suffered its first loss of the season to Region 5-AAAAA foe Etowah 21-12 last Friday night. The Mustangs came in with a 2-0 record. Both defenses had interception returns for touchdowns, and Devon Jones scored on one early for Kennesaw. Diamond Stewart had a touchdown late in the third quarter to help the Mustangs cut the deficit to two but they could not get any closer. The Mustangs will try to rebound this Friday at North Cobb. … The softball team has won an outstanding 10 games in a row at press time. Included in those wins are four shutouts, all with senior pitcher Brittany Lundgren on the mound. The team has won its first four region games as well. … A recent 11-match win streak has the volleyball team at 18-7 overall. The Mustangs are preparing to play in the Roswell-Fulton/Cobb Challenge this upcoming weekend. … Though the cross country teams have not competed since the Berry Invitational on Sept. 6, they are off once again this week but will return to action on Sept. 27 at The Mill Run at Chapel Hill High School.
