Youth still being served on Raider football team

The football team fell to 0-2-1 with a 33-14 loss to Cedar Grove last Saturday. Having young quarterbacks in sophomore Akil-Dan Fadio and junior Miles Gooch, the Raider offense has relied on the running of senior running back Justin Sims. Wide receiver Travis Benton has provided a spark as a kick returner, however, and senior defensive lineman Dwonn Goodwin has been hard to contain. Redan next plays Union Grove on Sept. 26. … The Raider volleyball team started the season winning nine of its first 12 matches. Through those 12 matches, Delia Brunson and Nia Evans terrorized opponents. Brunson registered 53 kills and 21 blocks during that stretch, while Evans added 44 kills and 17 blocks. LeVada Harris, Sariah Williams and Faith Adams have also played well. … The softball team did not add to their win total last week, losing to Newton 8-0 and Greenbrier 16-0, but Shadawn Clanton, Kierra Page, Alisha Andrews and Sydney Mason are among the Raider hitters that are having good seasons. Clanton has two home runs, and Kayla Womack is the team’s main pitcher.
