The second round of the state high school basketball playoffs took place Tuesday on campuses around the state. For the most part, the favorites rolled.
However, in Cherokee County, third-seeded Milton pulled another upset as they defeated No. 1 seed Etowah on their home floor. The Lady Eagles had upended No. 2 seed Parkview last week on the road as well.
Milton outlasted Etowah 39-36 in the second round of the Class AAAAA girls basketball playoffs on Tuesday night. Etowah’s Stephanie Huffman, who led the Lady Eagles with 11 points, missed a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer.
Nikki Dixon of visiting Milton sat for all but two minutes of the first half with foul trouble, but finished with a game-high 13 points. Milton center Tori Waldner finished with 11 rebounds and six blocks.
Milton will meet the winner of Saturday night’s Norcross-Alpharetta game in the quarterfinals, which will be played at West Georgia next Saturday
