Defense holds back Broncos in last game before region play

The football team’s defense held Brookwood’s offense to only 136 total yards in a 17-3 win last Friday. “It’s too early to tell if we have any superstars, but our defense is playing really well as a unit right now. And we’re making key plays,” said head coach Bob Sphire. Quarterback Michael Tamburo completed 17 of 22 passes for 250 yards. The Bulldogs (1-1) begin region play this Friday when they travel to South Forsyth. … The softball team defeated Northview last Thursday 9-1. Everyone that came to the plate for the Bulldogs reached base and Jennifer Gray improved her pitching record to 5-0. The team also defeated Collins Hill by a score of 4-1 on Sept. 2, with Alex McDavid picking up the win. The Bulldogs play South Forsyth on Thursday. … The volleyball team lost to Flowery Branch last Thursday. They play Tucker and Forsyth Central this Thursday. … The boys cross country team finished 16th in the Berry Invitational last Saturday. Jason Peele led the Bulldogs with a time of 17:47. The teams will next compete on Sept. 20.
