Tigers fight through injuries, throw a shutout against Lakeside

In the football team’s second game of the season, the Tigers rolled over Lakeside in a 50-0 triumph. Jonathan Davis had another spectacular game, scoring three touchdowns and contributing on defense as well. Drayton Calhoun earned team Offensive Player of the Week honors 75 yards, one touchdown), while Tucker named Marcus Williams their Defensive Player of the Week (seven tackles). Next up for Tucker is Lithonia, a Region 6B-AAAA rival who dropped to 1-1 after falling to South Forsyth last week. Still, head coach Franklin Stephens is somewhat concerned about the conditioning of his players. “My biggest fear is injuries,” he said. “Several players started the season with them. Devin Scott (a junior RB/DB) was injured [on Friday] night.” … Speaking of Davis, according to The State (S.C.), he is expected to attend the South Carolina-UGA game this Saturday. Davis said he “likes the Gamecocks but hasn’t heard as much from them of late.” … The 2008-09 basketball schedules have been released, and both the boys and girls teams will start region play on Dec. 5 at Miller Grove.
