Litt lights up Miller Grove for team’s first victory of the year

The football team got its first win of the 2008 season with a 15-9 overtime victory over Miller Grove last Friday. Quarterback Daniel Litt threw two touchdown passes, a 7-yarder to Jacoby Mitchell that gave Southwest DeKalb (1-1) the early 6-0 lead in the first quarter, and the eventual game-winner, a 15-yarder to Jeremy Barnett on the first play of their second overtime possession. On defense, Richard Hughes had an interception and Jabari Chaney made several big plays against the Wolverines (0-1-1). Also, Jonathan Mincy and the Panther secondary provided good coverage on Miller Grove receiver Stephen Hill. “We’re a relatively young team,” said Panther head coach Buck Godfrey. “A win like this is going to catapult us to another level.” The Panthers host Forsyth Central on Saturday at Hallford Stadium. … Andrew Menjor and Ed Austin led the boys cross country team to a 41st-place finish at the Berry Invitational in Berry, Ga. last Saturday. … The softball team picked up two more wins last week, defeating North Springs 8-1 and Chamblee 11-5.
