PANTHER PROWL: Three Panthers make All-CAA baseball team

RICHMOND, Va. (January 21, 2011) – Georgia State senior outfielder Mark Micowski was selected as the 2011 CAA baseball preseason Player of the Year in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Micowski earned first-team All-CAA honors in 2010 after batting .390 with five home runs and 40 RBI in his first year with the Panthers. He led the CAA with 69 runs scored, was tied for second in hits (91) and ranked fourth in stolen bases (17).

Micowski was one of three Georgia State players chosen to the preseason All-CAA baseball team. He was joined by junior third baseman Brandon Williams (.408, 10 HR, 73 RBI) and senior outfielder Ryan Fleming (.375, 13 HR, 59 RBI). James Madison also had three players recognized on thepreseason squad – junior catcher Jake Lowery (.285, 8 HR, 41 RBI), senior second baseman Trevor Knight (.360, 13 HR, 45 RBI) and senior shortstop David Herbek (.304, 7 HR, 47 RBI).

George Mason and VCU each had a pair of players selected to the team. Representing the Patriots were junior utility player Brig Tison (.367, 3 HR, 33 RBI) and senior designated hitter Shane Davis (.283, 9 HR, 45 RBI). Making the squad from the Rams were junior first baseman Brent Mikionis (.343, 11 HR, 54 RBI) and senior relief pitcher Jonathan Watson (4-2, 2.51 ERA).

Rounding out the preseason All-CAA team were Delaware senior outfielder Pat Dameron (.353, 14 HR, 59 RBI), Old Dominion senior starting pitcher Kyle Hald (8-4, 2.79 ERA, 95 K’s) and William and Mary junior starting pitcher Matt Davenport (8-2, 1.96 ERA, 88 K’s).
