War Eagles bounce back with blowout victory

After a difficult opening loss to rival St. Pius, just their second to the Golden Lions in the last 26 seasons, the War Eagles responded with a 45-14 blowout win over Region 6-AAAA opponent Stone Mountain. Marist led just 7-0 after one quarter, and Stone Mountain closed the gap to 21-7 late in the second. But the Marist offense responded, driving down the field to take a 28-7 lead at the half. The drive took the wind out of the Pirates’ sails and Marist cruised to the victory in the second half. Next up for the War Eagles is a crucial region matchup with Chamblee, who is 2-0 and among the favorites in the region. … The boys cross country team finished 10th overall at the Berry Invitational at Berry College. The team finished with 314 points, as David Conley led the way for Marist by finishing 36th overall with a time of 17:26. … The volleyball team beat McIntosh on Thursday 25-12, 25-14, but was upset later by Columbus 27-25, 25-10.
