Sequoyah nips Grizzlies 35-34

The football team lost a heartbreaker last Friday at Sequoyah, 35-34. Ethan Johnson’s extra point was blocked at the end of the second overtime, handing the Grizzlies a loss in their season opener. There were many bright spots, however, in the game against the established Class 4A opponent. The team came back from a 21-14 deficit to take a 28-21 lead in the final quarter, but Sequoyah tied the game to send it into overtime. After a scoreless first OT, Sequoyah got on the board first in the second session with seven points. Quarterback Collins Wold tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jason Wright to pull within one, but the game ended after the blocked PAT. … The softball team narrowly lost to Wesleyan 3-1 in the championship game of the Buford-Creekview Invitational. Jordan Cleghorn scored the lone run of the game for the Lady Grizzlies. Haley Brannon registered a loss despite giving up only two hits and two walks, and pitching a complete game (all three Wesleyan runs were unearned). At press time, the team was 14-3 overall.
