Volleyball competes at Lovett Block Party, football falls to 0-2

The War Eagles lost their second football game in a row last Friday, falling 42-24 to host Westminster. Juwan Thompson scored on a 74-yard run on the first play from scrimmage for Woodward and quarterback Will Madden scored on the next drive on a 67-yard jaunt. It wasn’t enough, however, as Westminster came back for the victory. Thompson would finish the game with 220 yards and two touchdowns on only 18 carries. … The volleyball team finished fifth in the Sherry Ammons Ironman Invitational, which was played last weekend in Huntsville, Ala. Volleyball coach Tad Sahara explained, “Gabby Smith was our best passer last weekend (at the Huntsville tournament). She did a great job passing the ball around. Mariah Woodson led us with a .400 kill percentage.” The team will travel to Lovett this weekend for an important tournament. “We are looking forward to the Lovett Block Party next weekend.” Sahara said. “It is one of the better tournaments in the state.” … The softball team lost to Woodland-Henry by a score of 9-1 in its only action of the week.
